November 12, 2010 at 08:30 PM

Announcing the first ever Popcorn Youth event in Montreal! For this event we will be featuring the adventurous filmmaker and Sublime Frequencies co-founder, Hisham Mayet at Dépanneur le Pick-Up. The Pick-Up is a small, cozy space, so get there early for hot tea and North African desserts. Hisham will be presenting his works ‘Palace of the Winds’ and ‘Sublime Frequencies Archives Vol. 3’. Q&A session will be held afterward. This… is sure to be a lovely screening and a rare chance for an intimate chat with the filmmaker.

The screenings:

PALACE OF THE WINDS
60 minutes

Shot over the course of two years (2006-2008), Palace of the Winds is an intimate and dreamlike journey exploring the music of Saharawi culture from Guelmim in Southern Morocco to the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott. With spectacular images from inhospitable landscapes, chimerical phenomena that transpire by the sheer remoteness of the land, and haunting indigenous music from a people that have long been shrouded in mystery, this is a genre-defying film of profound beauty. Explore the intoxicating tapestry of sight and sound that this obscure region has to offer through its most awe-inspiring musicians. Featuring live performances by Group Doueh, Group Marwani, Sadoum Oueld Aida and Group Bab Sahara.

SUBLIME FREQUENCIES ARCHIVES VOL. 3

>>There’s also a second evening of screenings held at l’Envers Gallery on Saturday, Nov. 13. Hisham will be screenings ‘Land of the Songhai’ and ‘Musical Brotherhoods From the Trans-Saharan Highway’.
